WHAT WE DID:
I used to design cycling kits back when I was racing a decade ago, covering them in bold graphics and patterns. That’s really where my love for textiles and surface design began, and it’s still something that drives me today. What’s different now is the tools I get to use. I’ll start with a simple sketch in Procreate—just lines and marks—and with the latest version of MidJourney, that drawing can be translated into a seamless, repeatable pattern. Earlier versions of MidJourney and ChatGPT had a habit of taking artistic license and changing my drawings, which I didn’t like. But now, the newer versions respect the original marks, keeping the artwork intact. From there, ChatGPT-5 can render those patterns perfectly onto any surface, which makes it easy to explore scale, proportion, and how the design lives in different contexts.

In this series, I’ve applied that process to create men’s and women’s cycling kits, running tops and bottoms, and even graphics for running shoes. Each piece is a way to test how patterns behave across different forms—stretching, wrapping, and shifting with the body—while also exploring how far these tools can take the idea of rapid prototyping in design.

For me, it’s not about finished products. It’s about proof of concept—using a mix of hand-drawing and AI to quickly prototype what’s possible, and to push the boundaries of how art, pattern, and technology can come together in design.
