About the Artist
Gregory Ryan Klein is an artist and designer whose work draws from a career spanning graphic design, fine art and graffiti, alongside a lifelong connection to surfing, cycling and running. These disciplines form the foundation of his practice, informing an interest in repetition, speed, endurance and process.
Working primarily with acrylic and spray paint, Klein builds layered compositions through stencils, repetition, symmetry and overlapping forms. The precision of his design background provides an underlying structure, while overspray, texture, imperfect registration and the physical process of painting introduce unpredictability and chance.
Sight hounds sit at the center of much of the work, surrounded by a nature-focused graphic language that repeats and evolves from painting to painting. Rather than carrying fixed meanings, these elements form an expanding personal mythology, part symbol, part pattern and part instinct.
Klein describes the work as Future Primitive, a collision of contemporary graphic culture with imagery that feels ancient, ritualistic and familiar. The resulting paintings balance control and imperfection, combining the discipline of design with the freedom of making something by hand.
